Jan Satler (born 1997) is a Slovenian pianist whose artistic profile is characterized by interpretative clarity, stylistic versatility, and close collaboration with contemporary composers.
In 2024/25, he was appointed the first Young Artist in Residence at the Institute for Piano Performance at the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.
He completed his Master's degree in Piano Performance and Contemporary Music at the mdw with unanimous distinction; subsequently, he completed the postgraduate program there. His artistic development was shaped by Christopher Hinterhuber and Mathilde Hoursiangou, and previously by Till Alexander Körber (ABPU Linz). As a recipient of the prestigious SYLFF program (The Ryoichi Sasakawa Young Leaders Fellowship Fund) of the Tokyo Foundation, he was recognized for his outstanding artistic and academic achievements.
As a soloist and chamber musician, Jan Satler has performed in prestigious Austrian and international concert halls, including the Vienna Musikverein, the Vienna Konzerthaus, the ORF RadioKulturhaus, the Pierre Boulez Saal, the Linder Auditorium, the Arnold Schönberg Center, the Parliament Building in the Hofburg Palace, the Brucknerhaus Linz, and the Klagenfurt Konzerthaus. International engagements have taken him to Germany, Slovenia, Croatia, Poland, Italy, Serbia, South Africa, Lithuania, and the United Kingdom.
A focus of his artistic work is contemporary music. With over 100 world premieres, he has established himself as a dedicated interpreter of new works and has collaborated with leading Austrian ensembles such as Klangforum Wien, PHACE, Platypus Ensemble, and Ensemble Wiener Collage. His work is documented in numerous radio and CD recordings, including those for ORF, Deutschlandradio, and the col legno label.
Invitations to festivals such as the Salzburg Festival, Wien Modern, the World New Music Days, the Vienna Festival, Grafenegg, Klangspuren Schwaz, the Imago Dei Festival, the 4020 Festival, and the Brücken Festival reflect his continuous presence in the international music scene.
Since 2023 Jan is a member and the head of organisation of the Platypus Ensemble for contemporary music.
